Our schools are strong because of the partnership with our families and the dedication our educators show every day. I am inspired by the kindness, resilience, creativity, and hard work I see across our district. Together, you make the Salt Lake City School District a remarkable place to learn and grow.

Early Open Enrollment

Salt Lake City School District offers a variety of programs and options for students. Our district includes traditional schools, gifted and talented programs, Spanish dual-language immersion (DLI) programs, and much more. Utah law allows you to choose a school that has the options or programs you want, even if that school is outside your neighborhood boundaries.

Early Open Enrollment is the time when parents can apply to have their students attend the school of their choice for the coming school year. Early Open Enrollment applications are being accepted now through February 6, 2026.

Applications are reviewed and accepted based on the following priorities.

  1. Your student has a sibling at the school requested.
  2. You are a district employee.
  3. You are a district resident.
  4. You live outside of the district.

Students will be accepted into schools with available space according to their priority. More information can be found on our Open Enrollment website

Measles Information

Our community, along with several areas across the state, is seeing a rise in reported measles cases. Measles is a highly contagious disease, and vaccination remains the most effective way to protect yourself, your family, and those around you. We encourage all families to ensure their children are up to date on their MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccinations. Students and employees who have not received the proper MMR vaccinations and are exposed to measles may not return to school until 21 days have passed since the last day of exposure.

Early symptoms of measles often include a high fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, and small white spots inside the mouth. A rash typically follows a few days later. If you or your child begins to show these symptoms, please contact your healthcare provider.

A list of vaccination clinics can be found on the county website. Families can find more information about measles, including how our schools will respond to potential cases, on our district website.

Winter Weather Reminder

Colder weather is here, along with the potential for winter driving conditions. Please know that Salt Lake City School District aims to keep schools open whenever possible. Though winter weather may present challenges, start time delays and online learning days are rare. If you do not receive a notification of a start time delay or an online learning day, plan on schools being open. Parents will receive a text and email in the event of any delayed start times or transitions to online learning.

Season of Giving

This holiday season, you can make a lasting difference in the lives of Salt Lake City students by supporting the Salt Lake Education Foundation — the non-profit partner of the Salt Lake City School District. The Foundation is leading the fundraising efforts to ensure every student has access to opportunity, support, and success.

Your generosity helps the Foundation raise funds for programs that meet students’ most critical needs:

  • Career and Technical Education Center: The Foundation is fundraising to transform an existing elementary school into a modern learning hub where students gain academic knowledge, technical skills, and real-world experience to ignite their potential.
  • High School Health Clinics: The Foundation is raising funds to fully equip new in-school clinics at Highland and West High Schools, ensuring students have access to essential physical and mental health care.
  • Food Pantries: In partnership with the Utah Food Bank, the Foundation sponsors on-site and mobile food pantries at every Title I elementary school, providing thousands of families with reliable access to food.

Every gift fuels the Foundation’s mission to help students and families thrive. Learn more or give today at saltlakeeducationfoundation.org
